Hill house for an artist

Architect: Robert Odhiambo
Location: Dallas Texas
Project year: Fall 2010
Client: Artist Donald Judd

Nestled in a hill, this two-story house for an artist is located in Dallas Texas. It is a modern arcitecture hillside house designed by an aspiring student architect Robert Odhiambo in Prairie View A&M University. Inspired by Haus Schnitzer Bruch, Austria, by Maaars Architecture, this contemporary design is a statement of what is possible of combining " high design and minimalism". The gently sloping hill allows for a horizontal design which cantilevers a living space up above that hovers over a private zone situated on the lower level. Its modern contemporary Swedish house plan features a "flat" roof and a minimalist exterior framing and its massive glass facade. The main part of the house is located on the first level near the main entrance while the private section of the house is concealed underground within the hillside. Numerous outdoor covered terraces and balconies capitalize on stunning views of the landscape behind the house. Both halves of the space are open to outdoors provided by the slightly angled orientation of the two volumes of the building.
